The New City Catechism and Devotional

A few Sundays ago, I was approached by a mom and her three year old daughter after a Sunday morning service with something exciting to share with me. Her daughter was excited to recite for me the Lord’s Prayer. Of course, I was delighted to hear her do so and was honored that she would want to share that with me.

Rehearsing a catechism is of equal value to memorizing the Lord’s Prayer. A catechism is simply a series of questions and answers that help give you a good grounding on basic Christian teaching. Given that this has been a lost tradition within many Christian circles, I find that it is a welcomed tool for both adults and children as we seek to grow in our faith.

The New City Catechism is a series of 52 questions and answers that draws from the best of several tried and true catechisms that have served the church well. Recently a devotional has been published to compliment the catechism. If you are looking for a short and simple way to grow in your understanding of Christian faith, I would recommend getting this resource.

If you would like to read more about it, here is a link that will describe the various resources available to both adults and children with regards to the New City Catechism.
