The Gospel of Mark: The Good News About Jesus!

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS WE WILL DISCOVER in our journey through the Gospel of Mark?

For starters, we will see evidence for Mark’s claim that Jesus is indeed the Son of God. It is the opening statement of the book, “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.” And it is the conclusion of the Roman soldier standing at the foot of the cross, “Truly this man was the Son of God.”

Secondly, we will discover that Jesus challenged the common view of his day as to what it meant for him to be the Messiah. Instead of coming with military might and power, Jesus would deliver us by being a servant and by dying on the cross. We will ponder these words of Jesus from Mark 10:45, “For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Finally, there is no such thing as being neutral when it comes to your response to Jesus. Throughout the Gospel of Mark, we will see how others respond to the claims of Jesus and what it means for us to follow Jesus as his disciples.

Here are some ways that you can use this sermon series in your own life:

    1. Read through the Gospel of Mark weekly. It is only 16 chapters long!
    2. Share this sermon series with someone. Either invite them to church with you or pass the sermon transcript or podcast onto someone you may feel might benefit from it.
    3. At the end of January, we are going to invite you to participate in a “Crossing the Bridge” assignment as we seek to live “sent lives.” Stay tuned for more details!!!
