Walking Through Grief in Uganda
THROUGH MUCH PRAYER AND CONSIDERATION, I will be heading to Uganda at the end of February to help with a recent crisis in one of the communities Children of the Nations (COTN) serves. At the end of December there was a major car accident that killed the local pastor and his family. One of our COTN children, whom the family had fostered, was also in the car. She experienced significant injuries and is working towards healing. You can read more about it here.
Both this child and our children and staff in country are dealing with immense grief over the loss of their pastor and his family. For this child, she had already lost both of her parents once and through this accident has essentially been double orphaned again. My heart breaks for her.
As a part of my role at COTN I began looking at how we can care for this child and the in country staff as they walk through this tragedy. I began developing a care plan for them and it became evident that there were some big gaps in being able to meet the needs of this child. God placed it on my heart to go and to work alongside the in country staff in caring for her.
So in late February (dates are still being ironed out) I will be traveling to Uganda. The goals of this trip will be:
- Provide training to both the staff and the caregivers in Uganda on the process of grief
- To continue to develop a care plan for this child and help find ways to meet her care needs
- If appropriate, provide EMDR counseling for this child
- To assess and help strengthen the emotional and social care services we offer in Uganda.
As I prepare to go to Uganda, would you join me in praying for this child, the staff, and the church community? Ryan and I have had the unfortunate personal experience of walking through the death of a pastor and understand the ache this community is going through. Please join me in praying for them.
I am also in need of funds to help cover the cost of this trip. I am estimating my trip will cost around $2,300. I still need to raise $1,625 to cover the cost. If you'd like to help with that need, you can give here.
If you are interested in hearing more about my upcoming trip, please feel free to email me or catch me on a Sunday!
