Wethersfield Seeks Volunteers for 2 Programs

THE TOWN OF WETHERSFIELD Social & Youth Services is looking for volunteers for their “Friendly Shopper” and “Friendly Visitor” programs. The “Friendly Shopper” program, in particular, is in need of more volunteers.

What is the Friendly Shopper Program?
It is a volunteer program that helps local seniors who are homebound, age 60 and over, as well as the disabled, with their grocery shopping.

What is the Friendly Visitor Program?
Friendly visitors are trained volunteers who enjoy sharing their company with people who are homebound and have little or no support. These carefully screened volunteers make weekly visits and phone calls.

    What is the time commitment?
Serving as a “Friendly Shopper” or “Friendly Visitor” takes 1-2 hours per week. A six (6) month commitment is requested.

    Is training required?
Volunteers are required to attend a three hour training class. Suggestions for successful connections as well as “Do’s and Don’ts” for both programs are discussed. Other topics covered include medical issues, aging, social services, etc. All matches of volunteers and their clients have ongoing support.
